ملخص البحث المنشور:
This study focuses on the comparison of two different manufacturing techniques for creating metallic lattices: Additive Manufacturing (AM)-assisted investment casting and Powder Bed Fusion (PBF). The research explores the process-microstructure-mechanical property relationships of these lattices using AlSi10Mg alloy and assesses their quality through micro-tomography and scanning electron microscopy. Additionally, the mechanical performance is evaluated through compressive testing. Key findings suggest that while PBF-manufactured specimens generally show higher elastic stiffness and peak stress, AM-assisted lattices have lower stress variability, resulting in a smoother post-elastic stress-strain response, especially evident in solid-network type lattices. Despite some variances in mechanical properties, the stress and energy absorption properties were found to be overall comparable between the two methods. The significance of this study lies in its demonstration of a cost-effective method for producing complex metallic lattice structures with mechanical properties comparable to those produced by more expensive PBF methods. This could have substantial implications for industries where cost and mechanical performance are critical factors, such as automotive, aviation, aerospace, and defense. It opens avenues for the broader application and accessibility of advanced manufacturing techniques, especially in contexts where the reduction of manufacturing costs is imperative without significantly compromising material properties.
